GOOGONG PLANNING UPDATE - PINK-TAILED WORM LIZARD DRAFT MANAGEMENT PLAN

Thursday, 4 August, 2011

In May 2011, the Australian Government granted approval for the Googong township under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC Act).

This Act is the Australian Government's central piece of environmental legislation and provides a legal framework to protect and manage nationally and internationally important flora, fauna, ecological communities, heritage places and Commonwealth land.

The Pink-tailed Worm-lizard (Aprasia parapulchella) is listed as 'vulnerable' under the EPBC Act, and we have identified a number of this species on a section of the Googong site. CIC have committed to establish, rehabilitate and dedicate to public ownership, a 52 ha fenced Conservation Area to protect these species, as well as implement management measures to enhance the long-term habitat.

CIC has now drafted a protection and management plan for the Pink-tailed Worm Lizard, which details the establishment and management of the Conservation Area.

Public comment is now invited on the draft protection and management plan.

The draft plan can be downloaded here (PDF 3.15MB).

The public comment period closes on Friday, 14 October 2011.

For further information or to comment on the plan email vikki.towers@cicaustralia.com.au or call CIC Australia on (02) 6230 0800.
