Public Art Installation

Explore The Village at Wellard’s brand new iconic art work!

A slice of spring-inspired adventure has just blossomed at The Village at Wellard – and it’s ready and waiting for you to enjoy and explore.

The new larger-than-life, 10-metre high sculpture – Grow –– is located on the corner of Corton Approach and Ryhill Crescent at Village Centre South, and is the latest public artwork and ‘playspace’ to be installed at The Village at Wellard.

Made of steel pipe, mesh and red polycarbonate materials, Grow includes a large steel structure that represents marri trees, as well as a 2.5-metre high interactive flower maze.

Reflective of the natural flora currently springing to life around Wellard, this bloom has the added bonus of being strong, sturdy and designed to be climbed over and throughout. It’s interactive art at its best.

Landscaping and shade structures have also been installed on site so you can enjoy a comfortable place to catch up with family and friends.

Grow was created by Fremantle artist Bridget Norton who wanted to create a symbolic and highly visible artwork that embodied notions of a strong, growing and connected community.

“This was a highly collaborative project between Peet, the Housing Authority, the City of Kwinana, EPCAD Landscape Architects and me,” Ms Norton said.

“We wanted to create an iconic landmark which would serve as a wayfinder and meeting place in the public open space in Village Centre South.

“I also wanted to the flower maze to provide an interactive play space for kids – something like an Alice in Wonderland experience where you feel as if you have been shrunk as you play amongst the enormous flowers.”

So why not head along an enjoy this latest offering of community art at The Village at Wellard.
