The new Flagstone bridge is officially open!
Queensland Deputy Premier, Minister for Planning and Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Jackie Trad, waved the starter’s flag sending the car of the future into the city of the future, at Flagstone, on Friday (7 July).
The record-breaking solar car Arrow 1 crossed the new bridge marking the official opening.
The two-lane bridge has been majority funded through a $5 million catalyst infrastructure funding arrangement between Flagstone developers Peet Limited and MTAA Super and Economic Development Queensland (EDQ).
“This bridge is a critical piece of infrastructure. It is the entrance to South East Queensland’s city of the future - a symbolic achievement for both the Flagstone development team and the Government’s vision for new growth communities,” Ms Trad said.
The new bridge crosses the interstate railway line connecting the future Flagstone CBD and 12,000-lot residential development, west of the line, with the existing community of Flagstone Rise, to the east.
Peet Limited CEO and Managing Director Brendan Gore said: “For the first time, the public has permanent access to the western growth area of Flagstone. This is the where more than 12,000 homes and a complete city centre will be built over the next three decades.
“We want people to build their lives at Flagstone – to have everything they need on their doorstep so they never feel the need to leave. The new bridge is our physical gateway to that future."
