Brisbane Catholic Education to build new school in Flagstone
POSTED ON 16 Sep 2018
A NEW multimillion-dollar private school is being planned to help ease the growing pains in one of the state’s fastest growing areas.
Brisbane Catholic Education announced today that it has bought a 12-hectare site to build the first private school in Flagstone, south of Brisbane.
The school is expected to open in 2023 within Peet Limited’s $6.7 billion Flagstone City development that has 12,000 new homes in the school’s immediate catchment.
If approved, the school would service one of the biggest new housing zones in Australia with capacity for up to 1800 students, from Prep to Year 12.
Brisbane Catholic Education’s John Phelan said the plans need to go through “four stages of approval” including the Catholic Church, the Non Sate School Accreditation Board, the Federal Government for funding and Logan City Council, before they are given the green light.
He said the site was chosen because it is a Priority Development Area that is experiencing “rapid population increases”.
Mr Phelan said the school would launch with Years K-3 and Year 7, adding a new primary and secondary grade each year.
“At this stage, we expect to open in 2023, subject to approvals,” he said.
“Our development program typically starts two years ahead. At that point we open expressions of interest for enrolments.”
Flagstone currently has only one primary and one secondary school - Flagstone State School and Flagstone Community College.
Peet Limited chief executive Brendan Gore said the growing community could support another two schools.
“Over the next 30 years, Flagstone is designed to become the main CBD for a regional population of around 120,000 people – that’s a population comparable to Toowoomba or Cairns,” Mr Gore said.
“Ultimately, Flagstone is likely to support two more schools, with plans for a hospital and tertiary institution, as well as a billion dollar local economy with around 10,000 jobs.”
Catholic Education currently operates about 300 primary and secondary schools across Queensland with more than 147,000 students.

A PRIVATE NSW investor has snapped up the sales and information centre for Peet Flagstone City south west of Brisbane. The investor paid $1.605 million for the 277sq m twostorey building on a 1923sq m block at 238 Homestead Drive in a deal struck by Ray White Commercial’s Michael Feltoe and Ray White Special Project’s Andrew Burke and Matthew Fritzsche. The masterplanned city’s developer Peet Flagstone City will occupy the sales office while the community is developed, on a 10-year leaseback with two five-year options. Mr Feltoe said campaign garnered 83 inquiries and 14 formal offers from local and interstate private investors and small syndicates. “The asset was hotly contested due to its low site coverage and strong underlying growth fundamentals including more than 50,000 homes that are forecast to be delivered within the next 30 years, as well as a local employment increase of more than 10,000 people in the Greater Flagstone area,” he said. The deal realised a 6.9 per cent yield. The property is next door to a future Coles supermarket and a proposed tavern that was recently placed under contract.

A NEW telecommunications transmission tower is being built to boost mobile phone coverage in Flagstone.
Vodafone has signed a lease with developers Peet Limited to construct a 35 metre tower in Gates Road, between the new Coles supermarket site and the railway line. It is expected to be operational by year’s end.

Peet Flagstone in collaboration with Logan Together and Logan City Council is seeking initial Registrations of Interest (ROI) from community groups, services and organisations, and individuals who would like to deliver services or activities, individually or in collaboration with other groups, from a community hub planned for Flagstone.
In order to deliver a bespoke and responsive community space, these ROIs will be used by the project team as a basis for further discussions with interested parties. Interest in future involvement within the Hub will be sought, and in doing so, potentially inform design and operational planning.
We encourage as many people as possible to register interest in the project to ensure the best possible outcome for Flagstone.
