More Volunteering at Yanchep National Park
POSTED ON 8 Dec 2023
Yanchep Golf Estate's Second Volunteering Day was a success on Sunday, 3rd Dec!
Residents joined forces with Yanchep National Park for a day of community and conservation, led by Indigenous guide Derek Nannup. After a cultural tour, residents enjoyed afternoon tea at Yanchep Inn.
Later, they pitched in for hands-on activities like tackling invasive weeds and planting trees. Despite a smaller turnout, the residents' enthusiasm and dedication shone through.
Highlights included Derek's entertaining talk, leaving everyone eager for more stories. The volunteering activities received rave reviews, sparking interest in the National Parks volunteering program. Discussions even sparked about starting a local beach clean-up crew at Yanchep Lagoon.
We are so pleased to see that the residents were excited for future events, eager to connect, learn, and give back to our beautiful community 🌳💚

Marker Drive Park Wins People's Choice Award!
POSTED ON 27 Jun 2023
We are excited to announce that Marker Drive Park has won The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects People's Choice Award!
The landscape architects, with advice from Derek Nannup, selected nine games from indigenous countries around Australia, including some played by the local Noongar peoples of the south-west corner of Western Australia. The park also has a Mia Mia cubby house, a nature play area, fitness zone and picnic area.
Shadra Pearson, Associate Landscape Architect with LD Total, said “The community feedback has been fantastic, especially for the Indigenous multi-use court. Derek continues to meet with the community monthly to build community spirit around the games. Parents are happy that the space allows for both young and older children".
All homes at Yanchep Golf Estate are within walking distance to the park and playground, so whether it's walking the dog, a family outing or taking the scooter track for a spin you are never in far reach.

National Volunteering Week Wrap-Up
POSTED ON 19 Jun 2023
Earlier this month, we hosted the Yanchep National Park Partnership Volunteering Event. It was a successful event that brought the community together around a shared passion for Yanchep National Park and a chance to “give something back” to the area.
It was a beautiful sunny day that allowed our residents to plant trees, rake leaves and clean out the Koala enclosure. We hope our residents enjoyed the sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee at The Yanchep Inn.
Here are some highlights from the day...
- A cultural tour from Derek Nannup, who provided an entertaining & educational session on Indigenous history
- Over 200 trees were planted in 2 hours & cleaned out an entire trailer full of weeds & leaves from the enclosure
- Lovely afternoon tea where residents were able to connect and chat
The event was an excellent opportunity for the community to meet each other and build relationships!

On Saturday, 22 April, we held the final instalment of the Marker Drive Park Activation Series – Aboriginal Native Plants: Education and Planting Session. It was an excellent opportunity to educate residents about local plant species to complement those in the park to support local wildlife.
The host, Derek from the Yanchep Community Garden, provided an entertaining and informative session on local plant species in the Yanchep area. He emphasised the importance of local plant species and the impact on local fauna, the multiple uses of plants in Aboriginal culture, dreamtime stories of plant life and the area's creation.
Here are some key highlights from the day...
- Residents tried their hand at planting some native species and took them home to plant in their garden
- We had four generations from one family attend the event!
- An intimate conversation & session for the community from Derek.
- Delicious food provided by Kuditj Kitchen
- Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the series including our residents and community volunteers.
