New $6 million park approved for Riverbank Community

Riverbank residents will soon enjoy the community’s largest amenity, the Riverbank Parkland, which is set to be an impressive 25.2 hectares spanning 1.5 kilometres across the Caboolture River.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council has approved the first phase of the $6 million greenspace, with Phase One commencing in April and completion due at the end of 2022.

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said the approval of the Riverbank Parkland is an exciting step forward for the rapidly growing community.

“The addition of the signature parkland aligns with Riverbank as a certified environmentally smart community will not only offer residents a green sanctuary, but a space for wider neighbours and Southeast Queenslanders to enjoy,” said Mr Gore

“The Moreton Bay and Caboolture Regions are one of the fastest-growing populations in Queensland. The addition of the Riverbank Parkland as a wide-open natural space prioritises and enhances what draws people here in the first place.

“The Parklands will further bring into focus the long-term vision for Riverbank – a community with the conveniences of an urban location with the benefits of nature.”

For more than three years, the Riverbank Parkland has been in planning with the Moreton Bay Council and Peet Limited.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery said liveable communities with plenty of well-designed, open spaces are a major factor in why families are choosing to live in the region.

“That’s why council is investing $2 million collected from infrastructure charges towards the first stage of Riverbank Parkland, alongside its record $743 million budget so we can have those better parks, open spaces and services,” Mayor Flannery said.

“A scalding metal slide and a bench doesn’t cut the mustard anymore. Families want open space that enhances the local environment, provides quality equipment and connects to community hubs without having to hop in the car.

“As a council, we recently announced another 100 hectares for greenspace in growing areas, and this announcement just adds to the growing list of parks, conservation areas and national parks in Moreton Bay.”

Division 3 Councillor Adam Hain said the project would not just provide a fun space for those young and young-at-heart but fill that important missing link between homes in the area.

“We’re watching Caboolture transform into a place that celebrates its environment and getting outdoors, encourages more sustainable modes of transport, and most importantly is a connected community,” Cr Hain said.

The Riverbank Parklands are meticulously designed to entertain families of all ages and will host an impressive range of features, including walking and cycling tracks with river access, a shaded adventure playground, a basketball half-court, hopscotch, scooter track, BBQ and picnic facilities and an oval with football posts.

While showcasing extensive planted and natural landscaped areas with river views, the Riverbank Parklands will also offer public car parking spaces and an amenities block.

Phase Two of the project is expected to begin in 2023 to 2024.

Riverbank is a Peet Limited residential community nestled in Caboolture South and is a 5-minute drive to the Bruce Highway, situated halfway between the beaches of the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane’s CBD.
