A crowd of more than 250 headed down to Golden Bay Estate’s inaugural Day at the Bay event on Saturday 25 March 2017.

The event was specially designed for young people and the free activities included spray painting workshops held by graffiti artist Dan Duggan, tie dye t-shirt making, bike maintenance checks by the Bike Doctor team along with DJs and local musicians.

Aidan Currey and his good mate Ryder Carter were among the crowd and had a blast.

“I haven’t been to an event like this before,” said Aidan. “It was so cool learning about Graffiti art and having a go – what a fun job Dan Duggan has!

“We had a go at the tie dye t-shirt making too and the Bike Doctor guys gave me some great tips about fixing punctures, making adjustments and they did a free check of my whole bike,” he added.

Aidan’s Mum Fiona said the event was a great idea – it was an awesome day.

“The boys got the opportunity to try new things,” said Fiona. “I had to drag them away from the graffiti wall at the end of the day – thank you to the sponsors for putting on the event,” she said.

Graffiti artist Dan Duggan had a busy day running the spray painting workshops but thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

“It was amazing seeing so many youngsters having a go and getting creative,” he said.

“They were a great group – very keen to learn and put their new skills to the test.

“By the end of the event the murals looked pretty spectacular and everyone had so much fun spray painting the huge heavy duty plastic wrap, installed on the day.

“While they were getting creative with the spray paint, I could hear them chatting and laughing – it was so lovely to hear them interacting with each other,” Dan said.

Kellie Sadler attended the event with her 10-year old son Jonte and six-year old daughter Nikita.

“We thought the afternoon was fantastic and a lovely way to celebrate living in the bay,” Kelly added.

“Our family has recently moved to Golden Bay from Kalgoorlie so the afternoon captured everything we love about living here. Good food, outdoor activities, friendly people and very child friendly.

“Jonte and Nikita both loved making the tie dyed shirts and Nikita made the most of the bouncy castle.

“It goes without saying the food vans were a hit too!”
