WA's new open range zoo is great news for Avon Ridge residents

The new zoo at Lower Chittering is set to become an international tourism attraction – bringing an influx of visitors to the area and putting the Avon Valley region on the map.

The State Government has announced a 700 hectare parcel of undulating land and spectacular rocky outcrops within the Avon Valley National Park will be the new home for Perth Zoo’s African savannah animals.

The proposed new zoo will not only support the international wildlife conservation breeding program at Perth Zoo, it will boost the local economy through increased visitor numbers to the region as well as the creation of new jobs.

No date has been announced for the start of construction as yet. So watch this space for updates as plans for this landmark new project progress.
