Brimbank Gardens

Located just 17 kilometres from Melbourne, Peet’s Brimbank Gardens was one of the closest new residential land developments to the west of the CBD when it was launched in February 2002.


This proximity to the city – coupled with careful planning delivered a family-friendly lifestyle in a safe, well-designed community – saw the development achieve exceptional success.  
 
Today, Brimbank Gardens is home to more than 2,100 households.
 
Situated in Derrimut in the City of Brimbank, Melbourne’s second largest municipality, Brimbank Gardens’ residents enjoy the benefits of a great location, good access to transport and established facilities.
 

Design Features

Exceptional planning by Peet and its team of specialist consultants – supported by an ongoing commitment to the growth of the local community for more than a decade – has delivered a thriving community that features:
  • a wide range of homesites, from easy-to-manage cottage lots to generous family blocks, ensuring there are options to suit a variety of lifestyles.
  • excellent connectivity, with bus services running through the community to the nearby Deer Park and Sunshine train stations, and the $331 million Deer Park By-Pass which enhanced links from Brimbank Gardens to the Princes Highway and reduced the commute time to the city by approximately 15 minutes.
  • a number of open spaces for community recreational activity, including picnics, barbecues, walking and play.
  • Balmoral Park, offering seven hectares of recreational space including two football ovals, playgrounds, walking paths and a basketball court – all set in beautifully landscaped surrounds with more than 3,000 trees and shrubs.

Environmental management and sensitivity

Special attention was paid to reducing waste consumption and promoting energy and water efficiency at Brimbank Gardens. 
 
In designing the community, Peet considered the solar orientation of each homesite to assist in energy efficiency. A "Flying Start" package was also offered to homebuyers, including a waterwise landscaping package to establish and promote waterwise gardening in the early stages of development.
 
The Kayes Grassland Reserve, located within the estate, is approximately three-hectares in size and serves to protect regionally and State significant landscape. There is a diverse range of indigenous plant species to be found including Sikly Blue-grass; Redleg Grass; Kangaroo Grass; and Smooth Rice Flower. It is also provides part of an important wildlife corridor for native fauna through the City of Brimbank. 
 
A planting program transformed this previously degraded grassland site into an attractive area, with a variety of settings in which residents and visitors enjoy a range of recreational activities including picnics, walking, cycling, socialising and nature appreciation.
 
Another significant environmental area, the Laverton Creek corridor, running through the estate was also preserved to provide habitat for native flora and fauna.

Community partnerships

Building strong community ties is always a priority for Peet, by offering sponsorship and support to volunteer groups, service agencies, clubs and schools in the local area. To this end, Brimbank Gardens’ sponsorship support helped the Deer Park Lions Football Club to a championship-winning season in 2009.
