Peet Limited designs exclusive new range of waterwise landscape packages
03/05/2007Peet Limited has responded to the State Government's tough new water restrictions by designing an exclusive range of drought tolerant landscape packages for its residents.
Peet Limited's initiative ensures that hundreds of homeowners across Peet's eight Victorian estates can enjoy attractive gardens without the stress of losing plants due to the tough water restrictions.
Warwick Hemsley, Managing Director of Peet Limited, is enthusiastic about the drought initiative, stating that the new gardens reflect the sustainable principles and environment management, which are important to all Peet estates.
"Having developed communities for over 113 years, Peet has a sound knowledge of Australian lifestyle and we are conscious about the needs of its homeowners. Developing communities is more than merely bricks and mortar it is about understanding the ever-changing requirements of homeowners", said Mr Hemsley.
New homeowners who purchase a homesite with Peet, have the option of selecting from one of the three water saving gardens – the Mediterranean Garden, the Cottage Garden, and the Australian Garden.
The gardens have been specifically designed to minimise the use of water for front yards and to suit the individual tastes of homeowners. The Mediterranean Garden features drought tolerant plants from a Mediterranean climate; the Cottage Garden is an ornamental landscape decorated with colourful but low-maintenance plants; and the Australian Garden showcases native plants that flourish in Victoria's dry conditions.
The landscapes include drip irrigation as well as inorganic and organic mulch types to assist with moisture retention. Core plant species have been allocated to each of the three landscape packages and a range of additional species are available to ensure each home's individuality.
The waterwise landscaping packages are just one example of Peet's strong commitment to the environment and established green policies.
Peet's position as an environmentally responsible corporation has earned it more than 20 awards from organisations such as HIA GreenSmart, Greening Australia, Landcare and WaterWise during the past decade.
