Design-led developments a growing trend in WA
31/08/2006Housing affordability and changing demographics have seen Peet Limited create a range of innovative, design-led housing products for a new generation of homebuyers.
Developments such as Peet Living's proposed Ashton Mews – part of Peet's Ashton Heights Estate in Tapping - have been tailored to meet the needs of a specific target market – first homebuyers, empty nesters and smaller families.
Currently in the planning stage, Ashton Mews will offer a contemporary lifestyle choice within an exclusive, secure community on the Ashton Heights Estate.
The villa-style development will feature 27 strata titled homes – all three-bedroom and two-bathroom – on low maintenance blocks of around 220m2 with resident-only access to excellent communal facilities including a lap pool and sundeck.
Peet Managing Director Warwick Hemsley said that while medium-density housing developments were common in the eastern states, they were much more unusual in Western Australia with Ashton Mews being the first for Peet Living.
"There is a growing trend for these highly-planned, design-led communities and Peet believes we will see many more being built in WA in the future," Mr Hemsley said.
"Larger established and new homes are become increasingly more expensive and out of reach for many people, especially first home buyers."
"They also do not appeal to all buyers with many preferring the convenience of smaller houses, low maintenance yards and fully-serviced communal facilities."
"This has led to a growing demand for quality, design-led developments in sought after locations – providing a different product to people searching for a home that meets not only their budget, but their individual lifestyle needs," he said.
Ashton Mews will feature 14 different home designs – from the more traditional style of face brick and tiles, through to the contemporary houses with highlight windows, rendered walls and Colorbond cladding and roofs.
Cutting-edge interior design and exterior facades will create a smart, quality villa-development and the homes' open-plan living has been cleverly designed to provide residents with a highly usable space within a more user-friendly layout.
The development will be gated and it is planned will provide private access to Ashton Heights' wetlands and surrounding recreational areas.
Peet Living is currently in the process of securing development approval and is expected to release Ashton Mews mid-next year.
A number of other design-led developments are being undertaken by Peet Limited in Western Australia including the $7.5 million Grand 56 apartment complex in Joondalup and an apartment and townhouse development at The Village at Wellard.
